Uniting Care Ballarat presents the Nevett Ford Inn Their Shoes Sleepout
Friday 10th to Saturday 11th August 2012
The Inn Their Shoes SleepOut is an exciting and unique event that brings together Ballarat business leaders, Council members, local politicians and Ballarat children to help raise awareness and break down the barriers, stereotypes and issues surrounding homelessness. The purpose of the event is for everyone involved to give up the comforts of home for a night. Instead of beds—close to 200 children and business leaders will spend the night sleeping on the hard floors of the Mining Exchange.
The night is jam packed full of games, discussions, activities and realities - and everyone involved will have their own unique experience.
Some of the activities include
- Hut Building challenge
- Get to know you games
- Spot the leader
- Discussions on homelessness
- Putting together toiletry bags (for UnitingCare Ballarat to distribute to clients)
Whilst the core of this event is about having fun, we also incorporate some of the realities of what it is to be homeless. Everyone involved in the SleepOut (children, leaders and volunteers) are only allowed to bring with them - a thin camping mat, a sleeping bag and a tooth brush, and the clothes on their back. Participants are only provided with soup, bread and water for dinner.
The idea is to spend the night truly living “Inn Their Shoes”. We want everyone involved to not only have a great time, but to leave with more awareness of how to create change in their own community.
ALL MONEY RAISED THROUGH THE SLEEPOUT WILL GO TO THE BREEZEWAY MEALS PROGRAM.
Date: Friday 10th to Saturday 11th August 2012
Time: Starts Friday 5:30pm till Saturday 8:30am Where: Ballarat Mining Exchange Participants: Children, Families, Teachers, Students, Business Leaders & Community Leaders
